Discover Josephine County - one of Oregon's "best kept secrets."
- The north portal of the Redwood Empire is the headquarters for water recreation on the wild and scenic Rogue River, with white water raft trips, jet boat tours, kayaking, swimming and excellent fishing. You can also wander through the "Marble Halls" of the Oregon Caves.
- The state wildflower preserve of Rough 'N Ready Botanical Wayside is between O’Brien and Cave Junction.
- The Illinois River State Park is at the Illinois River.
- Cave Junction is the gateway to the Oregon Caves and the center of the pastoral Illinois River Valley. Attend the Wild Blackberry Festival in August. The Visitors Center is just east of U.S. 199 on Caves Highway.
- To get to the Oregon Caves National Monument, take Caves Highway 46. This leads 20 miles to the "Marble Halls of Oregon." There are year-round guided tours through caverns, canyons and corridors (fee).You will find pristine, isolated Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area in the Siskiyou Mountains to be rich with botanical and floral phenomena, including a shrub that survived the Ice Age.
- Kerby offers the Kerbyville Museum, maintained by Josephine County, with displays of early gold mining, logging and local society historical artifacts.
- The 160-acre Lake Selmac County Park is in the Illinois River Valley… the lake is man-made. Take Williams Highway south, off U.S. 199 to Applegate Valley and the Applegate Dam. Continue on into historic Jacksonville.
- Grants Pass and Historic Downtown - Since the Rogue River runs right through Grants Pass, the city is often referred to as the "white water rafting capital" of Oregon. The wild and scenic Rogue River offers legendary salmon and steelhead fishing.
- Rock walls rise 250 feet above the rapids in Hellgate Canyon. Experienced guides from Merlin, Galice and Grants Pass provide thrills for passengers.
- Galice is a historic gold-mining town, a popular lunch stop for fishermen and rafters.
- Josephine County Parks is along the Rogue, Illinois and Applegate Rivers and three runs of steelhead attract fishermen in spring, fall and winter. Swimmers, rafters and hikers find campsites, picnic spots and boat launching at county operated parks.
- Sunny Valley is north of Grants Pass. Wolf Creek offers the Historic Wolf Creek Tavern, half-mile west of I-5. This was a historic stage coach stop for Hudson Bay Fur trappers and the Applegate party.
