Dear Whitney -

Yes, some birds do eat other birds' eggs. My favorite is the Egyptian
vulture, which lives in Northern Africa. The Egyptian Vulture eats
ostrich eggs, which are very big. It picks up stones in its beak and
throws them at the egg until it breaks, then it eats the insides when
they run out.

Some raptors (hawks and other scavengers) will eat eggs, but they prefer
other things like squirrels, mice, and rabbits.

Thanks for your question,
- Neil

Subject: Questions

Dear Jessica and Class,

Hi! Thanks for your wonderful questions! Sorry about the delay. You had
sent them to the @edison.com address, and I only check my mail there once a week or so.

Hi Mitchell, thanks for helping the kids with this project. It is a
pleasure meeting you by "Cyberspace" :-)

>This question comes from Whitney Hoffman:

Do birds eat eggs?

Good question, Whitney! Yes, some birds eat the eggs of other birds. For
example, Crows
sometimes do, as do Blue Jays, and a bird called the Skua. There are
probably others, but this
gives you a good idea. These birds are opportunistic, and somewhat
aggressive. Their diet
doesn't consist entirely of eggs, but if the opportunity presents itself
these birds will take the
advantage.
