On This page are a series of links to Tessellations students have created using several different programs. This work was originally done as part of a POW (Problem of the Week) for an IMP2 unit called "Do Bees Build It Best?". In that POW, students were asked to use 3x5 inch cards and create tessellations in various ways, then explore the possibilities. What we have at this site are a sampling of our "possibilities". Among other things, students used shapes like hexagons and others to help in their exploration. We used Clarisworks primarily, but some students worked with Flying Colors, as well as the on-line demo version of Tessellmania!

Enjoy these works of art and imagination.

These first few Tesselations were created by Matt Franks, who worked at figuring out how Escher was able to do some of his tesselations. Matt used a hexagonal shape to start. He also used rotations of 300¡, 180¡, 60¡ and more to create his complicated yet elegant forms.

These next images are by other IMP2 students. "Go Bears" is by Jade Reiber. She heard that the Wizard was a Cal fan! Others are by Maria Sari, Jesse Martin, and others. Hope you enjoy them. Write to us at cwisnia@mcn.org aka "The Wizard!"
