Why would you want a Domain Name?

  • It makes your company look professional - it looks like you have your own server to 'web surfers'.

  • It's really easy for customers to remember your web address.

  • Your website location reads: http://www.domainname.com/.

  • E-mail becomes very personal - you have unlimited email addresses under your domain name i.e. anything@domainname.com.

  • You have reserved your own name on the Internet - so that no one else can get it.

Is the Domain Name I want available? If you would like to find out if the domain name you want is still available, simply use the domain search form below, or send us an e-mail and we will check it out for you...no cost! Send choice to: domain@mcn.org

The only valid characters for a domain name are letters, numbers and a hyphen "-". Other special characters like the underscore "_" or an exclamation mark "!" are NOT permitted.

A domain name can be up to 67 characters long - including the (.) dot + 3/4 characters used to identify the Top Level Domain (.COM, .ORG, .NET, .BIZ, or .INFO).

MCN offers domain registration at reasonable rates. Enter a domain to check for availability and purchase information

MCN Whois Privacy

MCN Whois Privacy protects your domain name and your  private information from scammers for just $1.99 per year per domain.  Domain name information including the name, addresses, e-mails and phone numbers of domain name owners are entered into a publicly accessible database called the Whois database. Whois Privacy masks Administrative, Billing and Technical contacts for your domain with generic information within public WHOIS databases and protects you from telemarketers and undesired third parties who may try and trick you into giving up your domain name. Any inquiries regarding your domain name will be forwarded to you by our registrar and you retain full ownership of your domain. Some of the big name players in the domain market are charging $8 or $9 for this service, but we're charging just $1.99 per year per domain. To get Whois Privcacy on your domain just request when buying a new domain or send an e-mail to domain@mcn.org and request it for an existing domain name.

What's the Procedure to Acquire a New Domain Name?

  1. Verify that Domain Name that you want to register is still available (see info above).

  2. Read and agree to the MCN Domain Name, and Tucows/OpenSRS Contracts

  3. The current version of the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy may be found at http://www.icann.org/udrp/udrp-policy-24oct99.htm.

  4. Send a request to MCN's domain department at domain@mcn.org.

  5. Make arrangements with MCN for the domain name registration pre-payment.

  6. The MCN Domain department will e-mail you a domain name registratoin form.

  7. Reply to the domain registration form e-mail and provide all necessary information.

Be VERY precise about the information in your form. Domain name spelling or syntax errors can not be corrected. The only option will be to register a new (corrected) domain name, which will require another registration fee. Incomplete applications will be returned to applicant.

  1. After payment has been received, MCN submits completed registration information to the Registrar, in the capacity of Technical Contact.

  2. Customer will receive verification once domain has been registered. Customer account will be billed for Domain Name Setup and Hosting Fees (set forth in Domain Contract).

  3. MCN attaches the new Domain Name to MCN website account (see our website rates) on an MCN server (or other remote server).  Customers may request 'customized' domain name e-mail POP3 accounts. (Additional MCN charges may apply).

Procedure to TRANSFER an Existing Domain Name to MCN

The Current Administrative contact or "Owner" of the domain name must send e-mail to: domain@mcn.org with written request to Transfer the Domain Name to MCN. Transfer Information, Notification, and Billing will occur in the same manner as a New Domain Name registration, as listed above.

The process to move a domain name to MCN's servers for hosting varies from Registrar to Registrar. Please contact MCN's domain manager for assistance with this process.

Procedure to Transfer Domain Name OWNERSHIP

Current Administrative contact or "Owner" of the domain name must send a written request to: domain@mcn.org and must provide complete contact information for new domain name owner. New domain name owner must read and agree to all contracts listed in the  "Procedure to Acquire a New Domain Name" section above. New owner will also need to setup an MCN account for billing purposes.

Normal transfer information, notification, and billing will occur in the same manner as a new domain name registration, as listed above. However, each domain name transfer is a unique situation. If there are complications which require additional efforts by MCN to complete the transaction, the customer will be notified of the situation and given the option to continue for an additional fee, (based on $60/hour rate).

.tel domain names are now available for pre-ordering.  For more details click on .tel domains

The .tel domain is different than the traditional domain name as it is one page which will display the pertinent information you choose about yourself or business: stores, contacts, maps, and other information about you or your company. The idea is that you give people one address: your .tel domain, and then they have all the information they need about you. Read more at .tel domains
