GUEST
HOUSE MUSEUM | Fort
Bragg began to develop in 1885 when a lumber company was established on the site
of the old military fort (1857-1867). The sawmill is historically the basis of
the city's existence, and is still one of the oldest operating sawmills in the
nation. The guest house was originally used to house the lumber company's V.I.P.'s
and is still a spectacular home to visit. |
| THE
SKUNK TRAIN | The
Skunk line began in 1885 as a logging railroad to move the massive redwood logs
to the area's sawmills. In 1925 the the self-powered,yellow "Skunk" rail cars
were inaugurated and were nicknamed for their original gas engines, which prompted
folks to say, "You can smell 'em before you can see 'em.". They still run today
and at their 25 mph pace, you can enjoy the breathtaking views from the Coast
to Willits. Check their site for schedule
information. |
