The Breast Cancer Fund

The Breast Cancer Fund and Shanti have joined together to create a new community-based program in San Francisco called LifeLines. LifeLines will help women care for themselves and their families during their battle against breast cancer by providing in-home meal delivery. The program will also train 70 volunteers to help provide in-home support such as grocery shopping, light housekeeping, appointment making, and other activities.

This Web site provides information about the Medicare program in California, including drug coverage, eligibility, billing & claims, as well as the options for covering health costs not paid for by Medicare.
 
Consumer Guide to Getting Health Insurance

The Georgetown University Health Policy Institute has written A CONSUMER GUIDE FOR GETTING AND KEEPING HEALTH INSURANCE for each state. These Consumer Guides are available at their web site and will be updated periodically as changes in federal and state policy warrant. The Guides summarize your protections, and so may not answer all of your questions.

Patient Advocate Foundation (2)

Serves as an active liaison between the patient and their insurer, employer and/or creditors to resolve insurance, job retention and/or debt crisis matters relative to their diagnosis through case managers, doctors and attorneys.

Mendocino County Social Services Department

The Department of Social Services provides financial assistance with rent payments, food stamps, temporary cash assistance, and employment. They can also help clients apply for government health care programs such as Medi-Cal, CMSP, and Medicaid.

The Cancer Detection Programs: Every Woman Counts program gives low-income women access to screening and diagnostic services for cervical cancer as well as for breast cancer.

The California Health Collaborative is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) health organization committed to enhancing the quality of life and health of the people of California, particularly the underserved. They implement the Northern California Breast & Cervical Cancer Care Coordination and Navigation Program (CCAN).

CDHS is part of the California Health and Human Services Agency. The CDHS is one of the largest departments in State government, with over 5,000 employees working in its Sacramento headquarters and over 60 field offices throughout the State.

California provides free cancer screening and/or treatment for some types of cancer. Information and resources are available at this web site.


California Healthy Families

The Healthy Families program provides low cost health care to children under the age of 19 with family incomes less than 250 percent of the federal poverty level, for children not eligible for no-cost Medi-Cal. Families pay a monthly premium of $4 to $9 per child, with a maximum of $27 for all children in the family.

LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY
California Health Care Options Project

An estimated 22 percent of Californians do not have health care coverage. The Health Care Options Project (HCOP), led by the California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHS), is designed to examine various reform options for extending health care coverage in California. The project is consistent with the objectives of Senate Bill 480 signed by the Governor in 1999.
