"My work advances through a constant effort to combine the photo
image and abstract concept. There are changes from time to time because
of new photo techniques and at present the possibilities of computer
manipulation of photographs and combinations of photo and freehand
are very exciting to me."
Barbara studied
at the Art Institute of Chicago & University of Iowa and Illinois, where
she received her BA. Her MA was earned at Institute of Design, IIT.
She was a docent at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, then
was awarded a grant to "Develop a Handbook for the Development of Art
in Public Places". She next worked on a manuscript which became a catalogue
raisonne of the work of Fernand Leger. She was assistant at the Richard
Gray Gallery for twenty years, finding it rewarding to work with such
well known artists as Jim Dine, Claes Oldenburg, Roy Lichtenstein and
Louise Nevelson.
Before moving to Fort Bragg seven years ago, she was a member of the
Chicago Society of Artists and was included in many exhibitions nationally
as well as locally. She also executed several commissions for murals
and is represented in private and corporate collections.
Her work has been characterized as painting with photographic elements.
It can been found at several locations on the North Coast, including
the Mendocino Art Center and Fort Bragg Center for the Arts.
