"I have always
been fascinated by the coast and scenes of the beach in the morning.
There is something special about the cast shadows, wet sand, reflections
of the morning sky and the solid hardness of the rocks near the waterline.
I try to capture these images and set them inside whatever mood I'm
trying to put on my canvas. I sketch in the studio and then interpret
the sketch with my brush on the canvas.
"I sometimes
will paint fantasy images from daydreams on my canvases and set them
in imagined beach settings. I especially enjoy this.
"While almost
all of my paintings are of made-up images and scenes, I do sometimes
paint local headlands from photos that I take throughout the year."
