The Rose Wrap

Where's Alice??? (Monday, August 16, 1999)

She's been gone -- but now she's baaaack. Things will start happening around here again. This summer we simply took a break. The last couple of years have been a very long time of non-stop work and we were all burning out. There were family affairs to attend to and a deep need for some actual "free time." We are very sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused to folks who were trying to get in touch, but we just had no choice. We had a couple of setbacks this summer as well and these affected our ability to get back up and running efficiently. The computer we have been using for web page updates was vandalized in a break-in and the software that made the updates simple and easy was damaged. We have now re-installed it all on a new computer and can again begin posting these writings and updating our catalog. The catalog will be worked on this week and will reflect an influx of new rose varieties as well as the current availability of some of our most popular plants. ***We also experienced a problem with our local server during the summer and a great deal of email was lost before it could be delivered to us. If you have emailed us with something of importance and not received a response, please try again.*** The problem appears to be fixed and we are again receiving our mail. We are working hard to keep it up to date from now on. We have spent quite a bit of time looking to White Rabbit's future and deciding how we want to expand over the next couple of years. We have decided to focus on continuing to produce high-quality plants in relatively small quantities. This will enable us to send out a product which we can be proud of but it will also mean that we will be selling out of many varieties quickly. We would love to have thousands of our most popular roses on hand at all times, but we are simply not large enough to operate on this level quite yet. We do intend to grow -- but we have to do it sensibly. Please be aware that when you contact White Rabbit you are in touch with a small family business -- not a large company on the level of Jackson & Perkins. We are getting better at responding to requests and questions rapidly, but there will still be some lag between your emails and our responses. However, what we may lack in number of staff and rapid response time we make up for in our selection of rare and unusual roses and the advice that we enjoy offering freely. We continue to find and offer varieties which are not easily available elsewhere and this mission will continue to be primary for us. So if you have the patience to deal with a small company and an interest in antique and classic roses, White Rabbit may be just the place for you. We hope so!
