During the installation process, you will be required to close all browser windows
and restart your computer. Please read these instructions now and print a copy if you'd like to refer to them during the installation process.
Download the MCN Accelerator software by clicking on the link for your operating system

WINDOWS INSTRUCTIONS
Macintosh Instructions below in red.
If the download does not start automatically, click on “Download Now” button. Choose to "save"
the file to your desktop.
Once the download is complete, double click on the file you just saved to your desktop.
The file name is mcnaccelerator.exe
An “MCN Accelerator Setup: Welcome” dialog box will appear.
Click the “Next” button in the lower right corner.
The next screen displays the software license agreement.
Read and agree to this agreement and click the “Accept” button to continue.
When the “Installation Options” screen appears,
accept the default settings by clicking the “Next” button in the lower right.
The software will begin installing. Near the end of the installation process,
a screen displaying information about changing your browser settings will pop up.
Click “okay” to continue.
A pop up will instruct you to restart your computer.
Please restart your computer before you continue.
| NOTE: For the MCN Accelerator to be compatible with your email program you must make sure you have Password Authentication enabled.

After your computer has finished restarting, you will be asked to log into MCN Accelerator.

Your login is your MCN email address

Your password is the password that you have with MCN

If you cannot connect to the Internet after installing the MCN Accelerator,
or if the Accelerator does not appear to be working,
follow the steps listed below that are appropriate for your browser type.
As part of the acceleration process, MCN Accelerator uses the proxy settings in your browser to direct web traffic to the acceleration server.
MCN Accelerator automatically configures the proxy setting in Microsoft Internet Explorer; however, it does not automatically configure it for other browsers.Therefore, if you are not using the Internet Explorer browser, you need to locate the proxy settings in your browser and enter the proxy port number (8080) and address (localhost).
Below we provide some examples for common browsers.
Internet Explorer 5.x, 6.x
- In Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu and choose Internet Options.
- Select the Connections tab. Select the connection you are using and click Settings.
- Select the "Use a proxy server for this connection box," and then click Advanced.
- Make sure that the proxy address for the HTTP port address is set to:
- localhost
- and the port is set to 8080
- Click OK
Internet Explorer 7:
- Click Tools (on the upper right menu, to the right of a gear icon) and choose Internet Options in the drop down menu.
- Select the Connections tab. Select the connection you are using and click Settings.
- Check the Use a proxy server for this connection box, and then click Advanced.
- Type localhost in the field to the right of "HTTP" and in the next field (under "Port) type 8080.
- Click OK.
Mozilla Firefox 1
- In Firefox, click the Tools menu and choose Options.
- In the General tab, click Connection Settings.
- Select Manual proxy configuration.

In the HTTP Proxy area, enter the word
localhost - In the HTTP Port area, enter the port number 8080
- Click OK.
- Verify that you are receiving acceleration by browsing to your favorite web sites.
Mozilla Firefox 2 and 3
- In Firefox, click the Tools menu and choose Options.
- Click the Advanced button, and select the Network tab.
- Now click the Settings button and choose "Manual proxy configuration."

- Click OK.
- Verify that you are receiving acceleration by browsing to your favorite web sites.
Netscape
- In Netscape, click the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
- Double-click the Advanced category, and then click Proxies.
- If you are using Netscape 4.7, click View.
- Select Manual proxy configuration.

localhost - In the HTTP Port area, enter the port number 8080
- Click OK
- Verify that you are receiving acceleration by browsing your favorite web sites.
Macintosh Instruction
On the desktop double click on the file just downloaded:mcn_accelerator.dmg
- A new window will appear.
- Double click on the icon for MCN Accelerator.pkg
- Click "Continue" for the first few windows and "Agree" to the user agreement.
- Choose the destination volume on which the program will be installed (generally your Mac HD).
- Then click "Continue".

Click "Install" button.
- After the installation has completed please restart your computer.
NOTE: For the MCN Accelerator to be compatible with your email program, make sure you have Password Authentication enabled.
Password Authentication Instructions
The MCN Accelerator control panel is located to the right in the upper bar of your desktop window.
The MCN Accelerator control panel is also in System Preferences:
- Click on the blue apple in the upper left.
- In the dropdown menu click on "System Preferences"
- At the bottom of the Preferences window, under OTHER is the MCN Accelerator icon Image.
Browser Configuration
As part of the acceleration process, MCN Accelerator uses the proxy settings in your browser to direct web traffic to the acceleration server. MCN Accelerator automatically configures the proxy settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer and Safari; however, it does not automatically configure it for other browsers, like Firefox.
Therefore, if your browser is not working correctly or does not seem to change when you change the image compression in the MCN Accelerator control panel, then you need to locate the proxy settings in your browser and enter the proxy port number (8080) and address (localhost) for MCN Accelerator. Below we provide some examples for common browsers.
Firefox 1.5 (Firefox 2.0 below)
- Open Firefox. In the top menu bar click on the word "Firefox" (to the right of the blue apple).
- In the drop down menu click on Preferences.
- Within General click on Connection settings.
- Click the radio button Manual proxy configuration.
- Click in the box HTTP Proxy: and enter
- localhost.
- In the Port area enter 8080
- Click OK
Firefox 2 and 3:
- Open Firefox. In the top menu bar click on the word "Firefox" (to the right of the blue apple).
- In the drop down menu click on Preferences.
- Click on theAdvanced button.
- Click on theNetwork tab.
- Click on theSettings button to the right.
- SelectManual proxy configuration.
- In the HTTP Proxy area, enter the word "localhost" without quotes.
- In the HTTP Port area, enter 8080. Click OK.
- Verify that you are receiving acceleration by browsing to your favorite web sites and
- changing the image compression (from Low to Maximum).

- Reload the page (Click on View and click on Reload).
- The icon should spin and the image quality should change.
Safari:
- In the top menu bar click on the word Safari (to the right of the blue apple).
- In the drop down menu click on Preferences.
- Click on the Advanced button.
- Click on the Change Settings button to the right of the word "Proxies:"
- Next to Configure Proxies it should say Manual (if not, click the blue tab to the right to change it to Manual).
To check to see if the acceleration is working, go to a favorite website and change the image compression (from Low to Maximum) by clicking on the Acceleration icon in the top menu bar on the right.
