- Welcome to the Wharf Restaurant and Anchor Lodge, over looking the Noyo River,
named for an Indian Chief long ago. Fish and game were plentiful along the
Northwest Coast and few Indians of the region went hungry. Many lived in
large plank houses with elaborately carved doorposts. The figures on the
posts, and the totem poles, represented mythical beings that were important
to the family that lived in the houses.

Wide-brimmed hats protected the Northwest Indians
from frequent rains. A chief's hat, above, was woven
from finely twisted spruce and decorated
with painted designs.
