Joseph Noel is my g-g-grandfather. Below is what I know of him:

Found in a book in Albion Library, Noble County, Indiana:    Bk 1, pp. 39 & 350, Rec. 29 Sep. 1870
Noel, Joseph Died 20 Sep 1870 Wife- To Mary Ann Noel real estate and personal property her life time  At death of wife real estate to go to Joseph W. Noel (could this be his son?)

To Harrison H. Withers, Mary Ann  Noel, Martha (Noel) Pierson, Sarah Noel   certain real estate.

Martha Noel Pierson married James Pierson (1842-1919). They were my g-grandparents, resided in Noble County, Indiana.

Joseph Noel is buried in Cosperville Cemetery, Cosperville, Indiana. On tombstone is date: Sep 28, 1870, 71y2m13d.  I estimated he was born in 1799.

Joseph Noel born June 1799 in VIRGINIA, (according to Census), died Sept. 28, 1870, Noble County, Indiana, buried Orange Cemetery (not Cosperville), Noble County, Indiana. Married to Mary Ann Mawhorter about 1832 maybe in Ohio. She was born about 1815 in Pennsylvania (according to Census). Unknown where or when died or who parents were.

Martha Ann Noel, born November 18, 1848, Noble County, Indiana, Died October 4, 1913, Noble County, Indiana, buried Orange Cemetery, Noble County, Indiana. Married James Morrison Pierson October 1865 in Noble County, Indiana.  He was born on January 7, 1842, in Noble County, Indiana, died October 15, 1919, in Noble County, Indiana. They were my great grandparents. They had twelve children, not all survived infancy.

Joseph W. Noel, born October 2, 1851, Noble County, Indiana, died February 14, 1905, Noble County, Indiana. Married April 6, 1873, to Laura Stonebraker, born Pennsylvania, died after 1882.  Children were Ella, Delbert, Frank, and William.  Frank and William moved to Gundy County, Iowa.

Sarah Noel born 1854, Indiana.

Still don't know if the Harrison H Withers mentioned in will is related.  1860 Census shows him age 19, living with Joseph Noel
family as a farm laborer. 1880 Census has him living in Kansas. He was born Ohio, parents born Virginia.  Was he a nephew?

My mother's parents died during the influenza epidemic of 1918-1919. She was raised by foster parents, so much of our history had been lost. My mother really only knew her parent's names and of course her sisters.  Bit by bit I am finding it again

I'm researching -- or, more to the point, stuck on -- a ZINK line which I believe originated from a town near Wissembourg in Alsace. My great-great grandmother, Juliana Zink, was born in 1852 in Josefstal, Beresan, Odessa, Russia. I think she was a granddaughter of George ZINK, who left Alsace-Lorraine in the early 1800s. I'm sorry to be so vague, but (a) I haven't definitely linked her to George Zink, because I don't know who her father was, and (b) I'm at work at the moment, so I can't tell you when he was born. But I wanted to get this letter off to you while I was thinking about it, or I'm liable to forget.

I know there's a Zink family from Alsace that ended up in Josefstal, and I know that Juliana married Josef Franz IMMEL, who was from Landau. The Immels were mostly from the part of the Rhineland that borders modern Alsace, though some of their ancestors were from Alsace itself. My great-grandmother, Margaret IMMEL, married John DeKINDER in Texas in 1908; his family also originated in the Rheinpfalz. So why would I expect my ZINKs to be different In any case, George Zink and his family were the only Catholic Zinks I could find among the German colonists in Russia, and the only Zinks in the Beresan district. :)

Anyway, if you know of this George Zink, or if you have a George Zink who was born in the mid-to late-1700s and then disappears, let me know. I may have the answer -- or part of the answer, anyway. :)

Mrs. Elizabeth Nessler, widow of Joseph Nessler, whose death occurred 13 years ago, died at her home on Huckleberry Hill, this morning, at 11:50 o'clock, at the home of 83 years. She is survived by the following sons and daughters: Joseph Jr. and Mary, at home; Mrs. Anna Stouffer, of Greensburg; John and Norbert of Pittsburgh; Charles of Monongahela; Mrs. Charles Henry, of Latrobe; Mrs. John Burlas, of Jamison No. 20, and Mrs. Frank Schmucker, of Derry. The following sisters and brother also survive: Mrs. William Sheehan, of Latrobe; Mrs. Amanda McGuire, of Crabtree; Sister Evangelus, of North Dakota, and John Ruffner, of Latrobe. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

 Searching for information on my great grandparents: JOSEPH PETER NOEL, born ca. 1827-1834, supposedly at Three Rivers, Canada. Died Dec 1882 in Bourbonnais, (Kankakee County) IL.  Married ROSE DE LIMA LANDRY in 1863 in Bourbonnais.  She was born 6/1845 & died 5/1925 in Clyde, KS.  I am told she was baptised at St. Anne de Baupre.
 Would like to know who their parents & siblings were.

Also would like to find the connection between Joseph Noel and the following: Frederick Noel b. ca. 1848.  Lived in Kankakee Co., IL in 1870.  Also lived in Goodland, IN.  Married Adeline Gagnon born ca. 1850.  She died Sept. 1924.

Pierre Noel b. ca. 1831. Lived in Kankakee Co., IL in 1880. Married Philomene Vachon Feb 1868 at Weedon.  Had a daughter, Marie Eulalie Noel b. Dec 1869 at St. Eugene L'Islet.  She married Telesphore Briere in Jan 1890 at Weedon.  Marie E. Noel Briere died Oct 1949 in Willimantic, CT.    I believe Pierre & family may have returned to Canada between April 1884 & Jan 1890.   Pierre was a witness to Joseph Noel's burial in Ill. in 1882.

 The Dorchester Co, MD, family of Noell/Nowell was there by at least 1676.  I haven't found any information on their exact arrival.  This family appears to be English as they were originally Episcopalian.

James Nowell Sr m. Margaret (Harwood?? - not proven, b. ca. 1656).  Known children:  1) John m. Eleanor ??, died 1717, daus:  Elizabeth & Ann; 2) Septimus m. Mrs. Jane Taylor (widow); d. 1716, no children; 3) James, Jr, b. ca. 1683**; Brazel/Basil m. Margaret Eccleston***, d. ca. 1754; daughters Elizabeth, Hannah and Ann Kempston.

** James Nowell, Jr, may be the father of Martin Nowell who appears in the 1736 Bertie Co, NC, records.  The last record of James, Jr, in Dorchester is 1733.  It is also possible that James and Martin are the same person.  Some of the very early Bertie Co records are missing.

***Brazel/Basil estate records list the following children:  Septimus, Edward (m. Elizabeth Trippe), Elisabeth, James, Hugh, Thomas, Charles (minor), Sarah (minor), William (minor).  Basil Noell m. Margaret Eccleston, daughter of Hugh Eccleston of Dorchester Co.  Basil's descendants apparently used the spelling NOELL.

Additional reasons for believing that Martin is descended from the Dorchester Co family is the unusual names of Septimus and Basil/Brazel which also appear in the NC lines.  There is a Septimus Nowell from Martin Co, NC, who m. a Jane?? and moved to SC before 1800.  There is a William Brazel in Wake Co, NC, who is the son of Isham Nowell of Edgecombe Co, NC.

I have a little additional on other MD Nowells, Noells, but I haven't found anything to connect them to the Dorchester Co family.

Eilza  Noel Married  William H.  Taylor in  1868.

I have always been told that they were Native American, but I have found  no Documintation to Back this up, although  I do have a Photograph of my G, G Grandmother  who was the Daughter of Mary Noel that Married William  W. Staton   In the Photograph she is Dressed in Indian Dress,  She was Born In The Oronoco  VA  area and  was raised there.  My Family say's that she was  always called an Irish Creek Indian and if you saw the Photograph  you would know why.

My name is Sean Daniel Noel, and I come from Auburn, Maine.  Auburn is about an hour north of Portland, and is a twin city
with Lewiston, Maine.  Both cities have traditions as shoe towns, and many french canadians came south to work the Mills.  I am that mixture of Irish and French that is so common in my area. My grandfather Ralph Louis Noel Sr. is said to have spoken French, although I never heard him do so, and he didn't have an accent.  I don't have any idea what lies in the generations beyond my grandfather, although your web page certainly gives me the idea that our people could have come down from Northern Maine, and certainly from Canada. Thank you for the valuable resource!

William Reed Noel, the surviving infant twin child of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Noel, of near No. 1, schoolhouse, did not long survive his baby brother, Samuel A. The latter was buried on Thursday, following his death from acute bronchitis, and the other twin, William succumbed to the same disease at 2:15 o'clock, yeaterday morning. He was aged one month and 27 days. The funeral services was held this morning at 10:00. The Rev. L. J. Baker conducting the service at the house.

Emanuel Noel, of Bradenville, Dead

Emanuel Noel, a veteran of the Civil War, and who is well known in and
around Latrobe, having peddled horseradish for many years among the
residents, died very suddenly, shortly before eight o'clock this morning,
at the home of Mart Campbell, of Bradenville, with whom he lived. Shortly
after seven o'clock, he was seized with a coughing spell, and asked Mr.
Campbell to go for a doctor, the doctor having been able to give him
relief, on previous occasions when like spells had overtaken him. While Mr.
Campbell was on his way out of the house, Mr. Noel dropped over on the
floor, dead. He was aged about 65 years, and is survived by a widow and 5
children who reside in Mechesneytown. Notice of the funeral services will
be given later.

Isaac Ruffner, one of the county's oldest residents, succumbed to the
ravages of age, at six o'clock, last evening. His death occurred on his
farm, located near New Alexandria. He died where he was born, and where his
entire life of nearly ninety-three years had been spent. His age totaled
ninety-two years and ten months. Despite the number of his years he had
enjoyed good health, until the present spring; when he began to fail,
rapidly. He was probably the oldest member of St. Vincent's Church. He had
been a faithful attendant at the church practically ever since its
organization. He is survived by a son, John Ruffner, of Walnut Street,
Latrobe; and by five daughters, Mrs. Thomas Kintz, of Latrobe; Mrs. Joseph
(Elizabeth) Nessler, of Dennison; Sister Evangelist, O.S.B., of North
Dakota; Mrs. John McGuire, at home; and Mrs. William Sheehan, of Lloyd
Avenue, Latrobe. The funeral services will be held Saturday morning, the
funeral cortege leaving the house at 8:30 o'clock, and solemn high mass of
requiem being said in St. Vincent's Church, at 10:00 o'clock. The interment
will follow in St. Vincent's Cemetery.

"My Granfather was Marcellus Noel, son of James Edward and Mary Valerie Jeans Noel. I am attempting to learn the name of James Edward Noel's father. His mother's name was Anna. The came to Benton County Missouri from Kentucky sometime before 1840. After Mary died James Edward did remarry and had several more children. If you would like information, I can send it to you. Mary Valerie Noel is buried in the Noel family cemetery in Benton County. I am hoping that you might have some information concerning James Edward Noel's parents."

The fifty-fifth milestone in the married life of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob S. Noel, of near Donohoe, Unity township, was passed in a happy manner, Sunday, when a family reunion was held at the old homestead, in celebration of the anniversary event. Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, together with a number of friends, were present to extend their felicitations to the honored couple who though achieving almost a record for wedding anniversaries are still hale and hearty, and still young in
spirit. And even as to years, Mr. and Mrs. Noel, though they have celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary, are not old, he being 79 and she but 73. It was on the second of February in the year 1858 that Mr. Noel, then a young man of 24, led his bride, a girl of 18, to the altar at St. Vincent's Church. The Rev. Father Charles was the officiating priest. During the years 1865 and 1866 they lived in Latrobe, Mr. Noel having worked as a carpenter in the car shops which then were located here.
Thirteen children were born to them, and nine of them are living, seven sons and two daughters. They also have 24 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Francis E. Noel, of Latrobe, is one of the sons.

Mrs. Elizabeth Noel, wife of Geo. Noel, and a life long resident of Unity township, died at her home, near Crabtree, yesterday afternoon, from a complication of diseases. The deceased was 58 years of age and leaves to survive her, her husband and three children, E. J. Noel, Walter L. Noel and Paul W. Noel, all of Crabtree. Fourteen grandchildren also survive. The funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock, in St. Vincent's church, with High Mass of the Requiem. Interment will be made in  St. Vincent cemetery.

Mrs George Noel was Elizabeth Gerlack born in Germany on Christmas Day 1859. Although the Noël surname does not
mean Christmas but a person from Noailles, Normandy, France it does mean Christmas in a general sense. She was destined
to be a Noël. They were married June 20 1882.

George S Noel was my Uncle, born in 1860 and died in 1950. I knew George when a boy. It was his letter to his grandson
who was drafted into the Army in 1942 that outlined our oral history. He stated that Adam, my gg-grandfather was at
Yorktown for the surrender of Cornwallis and that Adam had five brothers in the War of Independence. We are trying to learn
if they were with the American Army or the French Army with the Viscount Louis Marie de Noailles. Louis was one of  the
Officers who represented George Washington and arranged the surrender terms with the Army of Cornwallis. George would
not give Cornwallis the honor of his presents. It was another who accepted his sword. Good old George, he knew all about
"image" as history recants. See how he got into the French and Indiana War. This lad who married into wealth, had a uniform
taylor made, went to the commander of the English and told him that this dashing man should be a leader and by golly he
ended up on the one dollar bill. That is another story.    Dominic

My grand-parents are Marie-Blanche Noel born 4 april 1906, married to my grand father wich is Euclide Garand, married le 15 08 1927 in St-Edouard in Maskinongé.

The parents of my grand father is Alphonse Garand and Hilaria Thibodeau.

I'm interested in research on my mother's family.  they were Noel's from Adams county.  My great grandfather (William Noel) was a blacksmith in Bonniville, PA (not sure of the spelling of the town).  He married a woman names Catherine Adams.  Many of my relatives still live in the Hanover area.

 Magdalena Noel, a daughter of Andrew Noel and Teresa Delone of Menallen Twp, Adams Co., PA. She was one of two daughters of Andrew that did not get their share of his inheritance, rather the shares were to be held by the administrator and paid to them as the need arose. We looked a long time for any marriage information and came up blank in the Conewago Chapel records. Finally at the Adams Co. Historical Society we found a record of civil marriage of Thomas Noel and Magdalena Noel (alias Walter) dated the 5th day of Feb 1801. It was witnessed by two of her brothers, Jacob and John, and a sister Catherine, as well as a future brother-in-law, John Lowestetter, and several others. This raises questions. Who was Thomas Noel? Why "alias Walter?" (Walter was the maiden name of Elizabeth, who married Magdalena's brother, Andrew, Jr.)  In such a devout Catholic family, why a civil ceremony?  There also is a record in the Adams Co Historical society of
Magdalena Noel's first  marriage  to Jacob Flaut (1798), with one child Margarita. His death is listed as 1801, and the year of the marriage of Magdalena and Thomas as 1802, in February. The children of Thomas and Magdalena were born in Adams Co. and several are recorded in the Conewago records as being baptized there. Thomas and Magdalena, with most of their 10 children, moved to Cherrytree Twp, Venango Co. sometime after 1821, after their last child was born. In October 1836,
the children of Magdalena Noel petitioned the administrator of Andrew's estate (apparently Magdalena's son-in-law, Sam'l McCreary) to release the balance of her estate to her children, so it would seem that she was deceased at that time.One of Magdalena's daughters, Charlotte, married Otis Green (my GGGrandfather) in 1831. At that time he owned donation land property at Cobbs Corners, Warren Co. a short distance away. We have a full record of their children, and a little bit of information of some of the rest of Charlotte's children.         Alan Green

 I am currently researching my family’s genealogy. I am having a problem locating information on my great-grandfather who is a Noel. Here is the only information I have at this time:

His name is Alexandre Noel (also known as “Luc”)

He was married on Dec. 10, 1897 to Marie Isola Stelly in Opelousas, Louisiana. However, I think Alexandre may have been born in Canada.

They had the following children:

Eva Noel, born 11/30/1898 (my grandmother)

Numa Noel, born 9/9/1901

Claudia Noel, 5/14/1904

The 1880 Pittsburgh, PA Census lists Bissiere Noel born in France about 1845 married to Mary C. also born in France. They have two boys Cass age six and Noel and one girl Allice. All were born in this country. In the 1870 Census a Phillip Noel born in France about 1843 and maybe a brother of Bissiere married Caroline in August of 1869. I came across your webpage on the Noel family history.  Within this webpage there were a mention of a Gregoire Goguen, Emelie, etc..

I checked all the godparents you had as Goguens too, and here are some of my results:

Martin Goguen was the son of  Hippolyte Goguen and Apolline Doiron.
Hippolyte was the son of Joseph Goguen and  his second wife Anne LeBlanc.
Joseph Goguen was the first son of one of the founders of Cocagne, NB, Joseph
Goguen and Anne Arsenault.

I have no information for the Goguen married to Michel Belanger nor for
Zelica or Flavie.

Seraphique Hebert was married to Eustache Goguen -born July 6, 1859, who were
married May 7, 1888.
Eustache was the son of Thimothee Goguen and Anne LeBlanc.
Timothee was the son Anselme and Angelique Hebert.
Anselme was the son of Jean Baptiste and Madelaine Thibodeau.

These godparents were related closely to each other, and within the Anselme
Goguen family.

This material was taken from Arcade Goguen's book on the Goguen Family.  It
is a large listing. I am related to Anselme via his younger brother, Placide.

I don't know if this information will be helpful, but should fill in some
gaps.

I know Peter Noel's daughter Catherine married Sebastian Weis/Wise. I'm not sure if Sebastian's father was named Caspar Jr. or Sebastian. I believe Sebastian and Catherine's daughter Philppina married John Noel, but I'm not sure who his parents were!

I'm also seeking information about the connection of the surnames of PRICE, OLIVER,  BROYLES,  and STOVALL to the NOEL line. My grandmothers name was the Eulalie Noel who married Telesphore Briere. They bore Leopold Telesphore Briere (my dad) who  married Marie Jeanette Gamache, a son Thomas (wife Zelda), daughters Rose ( husband-Arthur Provenche), Lucille( Husband-Gene  Briar) , (another son I believe adopted) Gaston Briere, and another son that was lost in Canada somewhere. Carol Glass Vass has been able to show that her paternal great grandmother, Sarah Ann NOEL of Cambria County, PA, was
a descendant of Joseph NOEL of the Seven Families Group of Adams County, PA. Sarah's line includes many references to
the Dillon's and among many others in Cambria County. There is also a Michael Strasbaugh living in the next household to

I believe Adams County must have been split at some time part became some of Cambria County.   All of my grandparents
lived in Patton, Cambria Co. PA at the time of their death.

My great grandmother, Catherine Noel Braun was born July 11, 1802 probably near Mulhouse, Haut Rhin, France, maybe in Reiningue.  She married my great grandfather, Nicholas Braun from Reiningue and they came to the Monroe, Michigan in 1847 with five children.  From there, the family went to Ohio, Minnesota, and, later, to North Dakota.  Her son, John Baptist Broun was the priest who had the catholic cathedral, St. Bernard's, built in Akron, Ohio in about 1900.

There was a Michael Noell who came with his wife Anna Stein and five children from Dept 54, Meurthe, France in 1853, also to Monroe, Michigan as seen in the 1860 census.  They had 3 more children after coming to the USA.  They came via Havre.

John and Marie Noel Schaffer lived in Alsace-Lorraine until 1869 when they emigrated to the USA with their son Nicholas and two daughters, landing in New York.  Michael and John were assumed to be brothers by somebody.  I don't know that I'm related to them.

My grandfather, Thomas Jerry Noel, was the youngest in his family and he died in 1950. I do believe that Abraham came from Adams County or Taneytown,MD to Westmoreland (where he probably married Mary Magdalene Ruffner).  There they had at least two children, Mary Barbara and Daniel, who is my gr-gr grandfather.  They then moved to Cambria County. Daniel married Veronica Burke and they had at least 14 children.  Their son, Samuel William, was my gr-grandfather.  He married Rebecca Earnest and they had 12 children.  Their youngest son, Thomas Jerry, marrried Evelyn McMullen and they also had twelve children.  Their second child, Manulita Marie, is my mother.  My grandmother was a teacher at Mt. Aloysius School for girls in Cresson Pa.  The nuns there had taken in a young Philipina girl named Manulita.  Story has it that my grandmother so loved the name that she named her daughter after the little orphan girl.

Frank C. Noel died at his home in , Irwin, PA this morning, at 4 o'clock. He had been ill with pneumonia for a week. Mr. Noel was raised in Latrobe. He is survived by his widow, three daughters and two sons and the following sister and brothers: Mrs. Stephen Dowd, of Boston, Mass.; Dr.Joseph E. Noel, of Wilkinsburg; Charles, of Latrobe; Richard, of Latrobe, and Emanuel. Funeral services will probably be held on Friday.

 What I am interested in is an Ellen Noel, b. 1769 in Lancaster, PA who married Christopher Slonaker in abt. 1785 in Winchester, VA. I think her father was Johannes and mother was Margaret ?? This is about all I know of her. If you have
anything, please let me know. Also, I noticed you had Runion as one of your families. My mother was a Runion and the earliest that I have is Charles L. Runion/Runyon, b.either 1825 or 1841 in OH somewhere. He married a Mary M. Sanders in 1858. She is listed on her fathers census list in 1860, but there is no Charles.

I'm having trouble with one connection.  It is John Noel and Mary Reeves.  I found them in the 1850 census (19 and 17 respectively) and living in his familys home, Lynn Twp. Posey County, Indiana.  After this I can't seem to locate anything.  I checked marriage records, censuses and other surname sites.  My grandmothers tree said their children were

I have Mary Jane Nole(Noel) married Charles M Wilson on Oct 27 1850 in Pike Co., Ohio. They moved to Freeport, Stephenson Co., Illinois by 1855 where Mary Ellen Wilson was born. They then moved to Wellman, Washington Co., Iowa by 1878 where Mary Ellen married. Death cert for Mary Ellen Noel Wilson states her parents were both born in Ohio.  But the only census I have seen so far that may be their household in Stephenson Co., Ill is 1860 census and lists them born in Ireland. Maybe not right household for them in census.Can anyone recognize this family. They are my direct line of ancestors so I sure would like to know more of them.

Jacob Null was born abt.1775 and died before 1840.  He married Elizabeth Graham August 30, 1803, in Sumner County, Tennessee.  He is my ggggrandfather and we have the line down from him--but have no idea whom his parents were!  Would like to find both his and her parents.              Thank you.  Margaret

I'm interested in knowing if have you have any information on the Noel's of  Williamstown, MA. Peter m Guestine Noel 16 Jan 1849 in Lacolle, PQ. Peter's parents were Charles and Theotiste Champoux and Guestine's parents were Alexandre and Flavie Beausoliel. They have several children, Cassimere, Edgar and Moses that I know of and possibly more. Peter moved with his family to Williamstown, MA along with his brother and other family members to work as masons on the college. Does this
family sound familiar? I would love to hear from you if you can shed some light on the families in Williamstown.

My Mother and her sister were born in the village of Czated, Hungary (1906 & 1908)  Their Father was -Noel, mother Helena.  He came to Amer. sometime between 1908-1913- imm. to Penn. and was never heard from again.  My Grandmother came over to find him- unsuccessful- and finally saved enough for her girls to come over in 1913- on the Amerika-which sailed from Hamburg, Germany and arrived at Ellis Island December 20, 1913.  Years later, my aunt tried to find her father, and it's been said he was located in Penn. remarried with six more children.  All parties are now deceased- and since I am now a 7l year old grandmother of nine, I would like to find more about my side of the Noel family.    Thank you for any help you can give me.  Phyllis.

I found a William T. Noel listed in 1850 Census index for Wood Co OH. Other William Noel names are in 1860 census for
Paulding Co, Seneca Co.(Bloom Twp, near Tiffin) and 1850 Scioto Co and Tuscarawas Co. I did find a William P. Noel in Civil War soldiers list for H Co 21st Inf. ,enl. 21 yrs old, then looks like a re-enlistment to E Co 49th Reg OH.

My g-grandfather's brother Joseph ELDER also enlisted in 21st Reg. OH, from Wood Co OH. G-grandfather Josiah ELDER enlisted in 179th OH, and brother Martin in 34th OH Piatt's Zouaves.

 INJURIES FATAL FOR AUTO WRECK VICTIM        Was Former Bradenville Resident

William A. Noel, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Noel, of 1015 Sherman avenue, Duquene, died yesterday as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident which occurred Tuesday evening. Mr. Noel who was 42 years of age formerly resided in Bradenville and had many friends living in this vicinity. Relatives here received word of his death this morning. Mr. Noel
was injured when an auto in which he was riding plunged over a 300 foot embankment on the River Road between Dravosburg and Duquesne. He was taken to the McKeespot Hospital, suffering from a compound fracture of the left leg and internal injuries. Richard Weitzel of Duquesne Booulevard, Duquesne, driver of the auto who suffered severe bruises, told police he
swerved to avoid striking an auto which stopped suddenly in front of him. Mr. Noel is survived by his parents and two brothers, Edward of McKeesport and Leo, at home; two sisters, Mrs. L. G. Weber, Mrs. John Helfrick, Mrs. Patrick Bain and Mrs. Fred Bishop, of Duquesne. Mr. Noel was not married. Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church in Duquesne at 9 o'clock Monday morning, (D.S.T.) and interment will be made at St. Vincent cemetery.

My gr,gr father was John F. Noel born in PA. July 1, 1857 and married Margery Murray from Ireland. I'm unsure of the date of marriage. However he died on August 27th 1945 in Buffalo N.Y. Margery was born March 8th, 1865 in Ireland died March 10th, 1916 in Buffalo N.Y. This is all I have other that he was of the Catholic faith.   Karen

 The British used the ships at Wallabout Bay, later the site of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, for naval prisoners on this side of the
Atlantic. The prisoners included men captured on American privateers, merchant ships, French, Spanish, and Dutch vessels.
After April 1780, the Jersey was the receiving ship where names were entered into records. A William Noel was one of the Prisoners.

From the records at the Courthouse, Westmoreland County, PA

Joseph Noel   Deceased.  "Be it remembered that on the 14th day of November A.D.1839 Letters of Administration on the estate of Joseph Noel late of the township of Mount Pleasant Westmoreland County, PAdeceased, were granted to Joseph Griffin he having given bond in $100.00 for the faithful performance of the same.

       I T.Shuelt Newill & George Acheson, Sureties. Admrs  sworn before Jacob S.Steck Regr."

This was the father of George Noel who went to South America and the Noel's who went to Iowa in 1835 from Westmoreland
County, PA. They were Adam, John and Joseph who took with them their half brother Peter, age four years. Their half brother Jacob who remained in Pennsylvania or returned from Iowa, married in 1858 and raised a large family in Pennsylvania. The Joseph Noel above was first married toMargaret Griffin with children that also included Margaret, Mary and Anne, second to Maria Longmeyer the mother of Peter and then Maria Kreitzer the mother of Jacob.

It is believed that this line, although not documented, traces back to Blasius Noel of Taneytown , MD and Peter and Joseph Noel of Adams/York County, PA who came from Europe in 1736

Looking for information on any of these people including Joseph Griffin.

My grandfather, Eugene Noel, whom I never met, came to the U.S. from Belgium in 1874 and settled in Abbeville Louisiana in Vermilion Parish. His parents names are Jacques Noel and Victoire Nablom, from Belgium. Could there be any connection to those Noel's that settled in the Northern states or to some of those that came to the U.S. from Canada? Leos L. de Angury

 On my recent genealogy trip to Adams Co, PA, I found that William NOEL m. Anne Bridget Griffee [or Bridget Anne Griffee] between 1841 when his 1st wife died and 1845, when their daughter was baptised -- both events in Adams Co, PA. William/Bridget moved to Cambria Co, PA by 1850 and on that census, Anne Bridget is shown as born in Ireland ~1808.  I think there were some GRIFFEE/GRIFFINs in Adams Co, PA prior to 1840s, but haven't been able to connect Bridget in any of those families yet.  Wm. NOEL/Bridget GRIFFEE's daughter Sarah NOEL m. John George GLASS in 1864 in Cambria Co, PA and then they moved to Howard Co, IA -- a completely different migration from your IOWA Noels, but just wanted to check in case there is some obscure GRIFFEE/GRIFFIN connection here.
