Charles
Waldman paints landscapes, en plein air. He started painting
oils in 1988. His representations consist of scenes throughout
the West and those from trips to France. Born in Oakland, he
developed an early interest in art. All of this was put on hold
while he obtained a medical degree from UC Davis. He closed
his medical practice in 1999 to pursue painting full time. In
the spring of 2000 he and Ray Roberts successfully staged the
first annual Foothill Plein Air event. He teaches 3-4 workshops
every year and continues to attend several Invitational Plein
Air events. He recently had a piece accepted at the Gold Medal
Exhibition at the Pasadena Historical Museum. Most importantly,
the time to paint has resulted in a change he can see in his
work. “I think there’s more freshness now and this
is something that I’ve always strived for.” It is
a great gift to be an artist. You really see the world and find
beauty that the casual observer overlooks.
