Hope
Stevenson began to develop her talent as a child and
received a degree in fine arts from the University of Colorado.
After graduation she taught art for 12 years. Her interest in
travel is reflected in many of her paintings. She prefers to
paint in oils with a palette knife and likes the spontaneous
effects created by painting wet into wet. She refers to her
style as semi-impressionistic and prefers painting plein-air.
“Painting on site allows me to interpret and express
my reaction to the scene in front of me...”. Teaching
is still part of her artistic life, including classes at the
Mendocino Art Center. Her work is at various galleries in California,
Hawaii, and Oregon. Locally her work can be seen at Highlight
Gallery, the Mendocino Art Center and the Prentice Gallery.
