Catch The Spirit of Spring

by: Merita Whatley – Gift Shop Consultant

It’s a fresh, new season and a great time to go exploring. Our spirit of adventure may lead us to discover the story and images inside the covers of a new book; find glistening gems of glass, stones or shells the ocean has left at high tide line; or perhaps delight in the many new books, home décor, and clothing in the Point Arena Lighthouse Gift Shop at the end of Lighthouse Road.

It’s a thrill to see the lighthouse tower, white ruffled waves and abundant birdlife as you wind down the road heading west. When you arrive at the base of the tower, look up and imagine the climb up one hundred and forty-five steps to the top. This is truly a bird’s eye view!

Just a few steps further west, you’ll come to the Fog Signal Building and inside, the gift shop and museum. It’s the oldest structure on the property, having survived the devastating earthquake of 1906 and many years of coastal storms. Today, the gift shop greets visitors with a refined selection of colorful décor and gifts, books for every reader, and new lines of sportswear for each member of the family. A favorite book from the fifties, “Pirates, Ships, and Sailors” is a classic treasure.

The soft greens, cool blues, washed whites, and sunset corals of sea glass are predominate tones in the gift shop. And there, among the new collection of books is a gem called Pure Sea Glass. It tells the story of glass tumbled for years in the surf and often waiting to be discovered by those who venture to the shore. And, if you discover a gem from the sea, there are beautiful Sea Glass note cards to announce the news of your discovery!

Merita invites PALS’ members and friends to stop by the Station’s gift shop and see all the new gift items.
She is certain you will find that perfect gift for someone special.
