Adopted Prisoner

The Mendocino/Fort Bragg, CA. local group 135 of Amnesty International has been working for several months on behalf of a student from Myanmar (formerly Burma) who AI considers may be a prisoner of conscience.

Ma Tin Tin Win was a student at Yangon Arts and Sciences University. She was detained in December, 1991 because of her participation in a non-violent student demonstration on behalf of political prisoners including newly released prisoner Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. At last reports Ma Tin Tin Win was in Insein Prison in Yangon with a sentence of ten years. There has been no information on her current whereabouts or well-being. Letters of inquiry about her are being written to Myanmar officials.
